FRUIT FACTORS & FUN FACTS

WHEN TO PICK?

MOODY MOTHER NATURE!

MOODY MOTHER NATURE!

It's impossible to determine exact ripening dates as weather conditions vary from year to year. Some years Mother Nature will bring us an early harvest and other years it might be cold and rain for days... which means we cannot pick until the rain stops leading to a later harvest. We always recommend calling ahead at 315-331-6294 during store hours to see if your favorite apple is available.

MOODY MOTHER NATURE!

The weather not only determines the harvest dates of our apples but it also has an impact on the size, quality, flavor, and the amount of apples on the trees. Some of the things we are always concerned about is good pollination (busy bees), sunshine, rain (not hail), wind (damages trees & apples), and temperature (don't freeze please). Those are just a few of the factors that play an important role in the growing and harvest season. It sure isn't easy trying to have Mother Nature as a best friend!

FUN FACTS:

Fun Fact #1:

Did you know the more sunlight an apple tree receives, the more sugar it can produce, leading to sweeter apples?

Fun Fact #2:

It takes the energy from 50 leaves to produce one apple.

Fun Fact #3:

Apple trees can be grown farther north than other fruit trees because they bloom late in spring, minimizing the chance of frost damage.
